Introduction to Underwater Imaging
If you’ve spent any time on Facebook or You Tube, you’ve no doubt seen underwater photos and videos posted by friends, family members and others. You may be thinking how much fun it would be to be able to do the same yourself. You just don’t know where to start.
Perhaps you’ve already invested in a GoPro, Sealife or similar camera. Mauybe you even bit the bullet and invested in a housed mirrorless or DSLR system. But, having spent the money, you are less than satisfied by your results.
We can help. Our one-day, Introduction to Underwater Imaging program can show you the wide range of what is possible. It will get you firmly started down the road to dazzling friends and family with a visual record of what you see and experience under water.
These programs are open to divers of any experience level. We custom tailor each course to meet the needs of specific students. We also cover both photo and video. Your camera is capable of shooting both; why not learn about both? It may be easier than you think.
Depending on time of year, we can use any of a variety of sites for this course. This typically includes places such as Ginnie Spring, Devil’s Den, Blue Grotto and Orange Grove Sink. We pick the site that’s most likely to produce the best results on any given day. And we can pretty much guarantee you will leave the course with something you can impress your friends with on Facebook, Twitter or You Tube.
By the way, if you are a certified Cavern or Cave Diver, be sure to check out our two-day Underwater Imaging in Overhead Environments course.
Prerequisites
- Be at least 18 years old
- Have ten or more dives
- Be certified to the Open Water Diver level or equivalent
Time frames
- This course generally takes one day and two dives.
- With sufficient notice, we can usually accommodate requests for specific course dates.
Required equipment
If you already have your own underwater camera system, bring it. We’ll show you how to get more out of it.
We realize, however, that many of our students are postponing this investment until they are confident they can get the kind of images that will make spending the money worthwhile. No problem. We have camera systems you can use during the course at no charge.
You will, however, need to supply all other dive equipment, including tanks. This should be appropriate for your current level of certification. Need rental equipment? That’s readily available. Just let us know ahead of time.
